Inspire you inner investigator!
The Lackawanna Historical Society has expanded our virtual scavenger hunt to spotlight the many cultures that call Lackawanna County home! “Valley Quest: Showcasing Culture” will be open from October 6 through November 4 and will send participants on a mission around Lackawanna County to find interesting, often overlooked sites representing different ethnic groups or remnants of local history.
Participants will compete as teams, and work to complete a “challenge” at each site, either to take a photo or gather objects. Scavenger hunt clues will be emailed to players each Wednesday, and will focus on specific areas of the county- the Upper Valley and Waverly, the Mid-Valley, Scranton neighborhoods and the Lower Valley. Clues will take teams to cemeteries and gardens, a one-room schoolhouse, a former colliery, and a local beach, as well as ethnic churches, social clubs, and restaurants. Follow the directions to gather objects and take photos of your journey!
The hunt will finish on November 4 with a celebration at Lackawanna College’s “409 on Adams,” a live classroom for the Kiesendahl School of Hospitality providing students with real world experience in the culinary field. Teams and guests will have an opportunity to sample ethnic dishes, share stories of their adventures, and see what treasures have been uncovered during the hunt. A cash bar with signature cocktails will be available, and prizes will be awarded to scavenger hunt teams in various categories at the reception.
Registration is $50 for a team of four players, and includes four tickets for the reception. Registration for the hunt opens on September 15 and closes September 25.
Tickets for the reception only at 409 on Adams are $20 each.
