Clarks Summit or Clark's Summit? US Post Office policy removes
possessive apostrophes so the Clarks Summit Post Office has none in its
name. The borough was incorporated as Clark's Summit and that is its
name today. We will try to be consistent in this website.
The corner of Grove and State where Butler’s Sunoco is now used
to be an open field where there was a huge carnival every summer.
In the 1950’s after a football game, if the consolidated high
school won, the band, the cheerleaders and anybody else who wanted went
from “The Pit” down Grove Street to State Street all the way to
Highland and all the way back up. Can you imagine traffic then?
There used to be a restaurant down where Friendly’s is now called
the Victory Pig Barbecue. They had delicious sandwiches and hired
fourteen and fifteen year olds as carhops –– get the order, go and get
the food, bring it out and perhaps get a nickel tip – that was
considered something.
