The Lackawanna
Historical Society has a wide range of resources available that can help
you with your research. Members can use the Society library at any time
during regular business hours, non-members can also use the library for a
fee of $5 per day. On site researchers will respond to written research
requests for a base fee of $25 plus a copy fee. Listed below is a short
description of the library holdings. You may also search the Library
Catalog.

Genealogy Files
These files contain research information
pertinent to many area families. Arranged alphabetically, the genealogy
files include clippings, letters and family charts.
Photography Collection
This is an extensive collection of
over 5,000 photographs relating to many aspects of Lackawanna County's
history.
Published Books
Over 6,000 books, most relating to local
history.
Manuscripts
The use of any manuscript collection must be
made in advance with the staff. The Society maintains a number of
significant manuscript collections relating to: anthracite mining and
railroad history; personal diaries and letters; land titles and
transactions; County prison records; Scranton Company business letters;
funeral home records.
Over sixty interviews with women throughout
Lackawanna County, representing a variety of ethnic, social, economic, and
religious backgrounds. Interviews were conducted in 1992 as a part of
Humanities Council's pilot project "Raising Our Sites:
Women's History in
Pennsylvania."
General Scrapbook Collection
Contains a wide range of
topics. Partially cataloged.
Newspapers
A range of Scranton newspapers are on microfilm.
Maps
Over 1200 maps including Sanborn Atlases, covering
Lackawanna County and related areas.
Music Scrapbook Collection
1885-1946[;] Extensive collection
covering local musical events and topics.
