The LHS Reference LibraryThe Lackawanna Historical Society has a wide range of resources available that can help you with your research. Members can use the Society library at any time during regular business hours, non-members can also use the library for a fee of $5 per day. On site researchers will respond to written research requests for a base fee of $25 plus a copy fee. Genealogy Files These files contain research information pertinent to many area families. Arranged alphabetically, the genealogy files include clippings, letters and family charts. Manuscripts The Society maintains a number of significant manuscript collections relating to: anthracite mining and railroad history; personal diaries and letters; land titles and transactions; County prison records; Scranton Company business letters; funeral home records; etc. Please note: The use of any manuscript collection must be made in advance with the staff. General Scrapbook Collection Contains a wide range of topics. Partially cataloged. |

Photography Collection This is an extensive collection of over 5,000 photographs relating to many aspects of Lackawanna County's history. Published Books Over 6,000 books, most relating to local history. Newspapers A range of Scranton newspapers are on microfilm. Maps Hundreds of maps including Sanborn Atlases, covering Lackawanna County and related areas. Music Scrapbook Collection from 1885 to 1946 Extensive collection covering local musical events and topics. |
